Quality public schools for all

Building, learning, and growing

We are parents, educators, students, and community members who are organizing for quality public schools where every student – no matter their race, identity, or background – learns and feels valued and supported.

Public School Strong promotes, protects, and strengthens our schools

We’re stronger together

Our national campaign has one simple goal: to convince local policymakers that every child – regardless of zip code, race, gender, or ethnicity – deserve quality public schools that value and respect them fully.

Why do school boards matter?

Billion

There are over 81,000 elected school board members in the United States. They oversee almost 14,000 public school districts and manage over $800 billion in public funding.

The Problem

Yet voter turnout for school board elections is shockingly low – just 5 to 10% of voters show up to vote for local school board seats. This means only a small group of voters repeatedly decides who will represent their interests in our local public schools.

Our Solution

If we want honest, equitable, fully funded public education and want our public schools to support the needs of all our students, it’s up to each of us to learn about the work of school boards and to build democratic power in our communities and state capitols!
